Ro, according to the various polls, you still read more than the average reader in [country], so who cares how fast you read?  My goal for 2012 is 200 books, and I know that's only because I read so much YA (far easier reading than adult…

After reading The White Devil last January, I got interested in learning more about Byron... so now I'm reading Byron: Life and Legend.  It's interesting but it's also in 8pt type - yikes!  Very difficult to read.

I am a relatively slow reader.  To try to read a specific number of books in a year would add to much stress to an activity that I enjoy at my own pace.  I probably only read about 80 books a year (a guess).    Sorry I…

Ah well.  Again, I'd love to read 100 in 2012, but I didn't do it in 2011.  I will have read 85 by year's end unless something spectacularly bad happens, so that's better than last year.  And I did read some…

Latest update, with 2 days in 2011 to go: read my 250 book goal, and Mt. Bookpile is at 291!!  Even better, I've cleaned out all the YA books so between now and Jan 20th I can concentrate on adult reads.

So, how did everyone do?  I've read 239 books... and Mt. Bookpile is down to 301.  With luck on my side, I'll get up to 250 books read and a Mt. Bookpile below 300 by Dec 31st!

How nice that there are people here! But LizzieD, I'm so sorry about your mother! It sounds as if she's in good hands,  however. I'll be hoping for better news. I haven't read much of any particular moment but am about to…

On becoming 70

I'm not sure yet how I feel about being 70 years old but it's definitely different.

For one thing, when I'm asked my age on a form it will be easier to fill out. "70" is much easier to write than any of those wretched numbers involving the number 6. You have to curl the pen around backwards to finish off the 6, and then you have to sprint forwards to start the second number. Or maybe I just dislike having an age with two digits. I should have stopped having birthdays at age…

Bebe Moore Campbell, SINGING IN THE COMEBACK CHOIR (1998)

(I've pasted this from my books blog, mainly just to see how it will show up here. I'd welcome responses.)

Edited to add: No responses, and it's been quite a while--so I've removed the entry due to lack of interest.

New Year... New Reading Resolutions 11 Replies

Last year, I challenged myself to read more books than I'd read in 2009 and to get Mt. Bookpile down below 300.  I've done the former, but not the latter (despite "only" adding 184 books to the…Continue
